CONFIDENTIALITY FOR UNDER 18s

Everything we talk about in counselling is private unless I am concerned that you, or another child or young person, is at a significant risk of harm.

What is significant risk of harm?

  • If an adult is, or is threatening to harm you, either emotionally, physically, sexually or you are being neglected, meaning your basic wellbeing needs are not being met.

  • If you are currently, or intending to, harm yourself, or if you are, or are intending to, harm others.

What happens if I need to share this information?

Wherever possible I will talk to you before any information is shared.

  • Only information around the risk of harm will be shared.

  • In the first instance information will be shared with the adult attending with you. However, if sharing this information would put you at further risk of harm or would not be appropriate, then I would directly contact the relevant agency.
